P.P. Dr. Shrikrishna Deshmukh

A revered spiritual luminary and noble medical practitioner, Dr. Shrikrishna Deshmukh – affectionately known as Dr. Kākā – has touched countless lives through his unconditional devotion to people from all walks of life. Going beyond physical healing, he has fostered intrinsic transformation in modern lifestyles through the essential teachings of Advait Vedanta.
Life & Teachings
Dr. Deshmukh began his medical practice in the small town of Akole, near Ahmednagar, in 1955. His early years were marked by a rapid evolution into a skilled surgeon. Driven by a deep compassion for the underprivileged, he decided to relocate to Murgud village in the Kolhapur district of Maharashtra, leaving behind lucrative opportunities in metropolitan hospitals.
In 1965, recognizing the dire need for medical facilities in rural areas, he established a modest 13-bed hospital called Madhvananda Krupa. During a time of limited medical resources and infrastructure, he became a highly sought-after doctor due to his reassuring demeanor and calming influence. Patients from Murgud and the surrounding 100 villages flocked to his hospital day and night.
In 1985, P.P. Dr. Kākā voluntarily handed over his well-established hospital at the peak of its success to dedicate his life to nurturing curiosity and reviving faith in India’s spiritual heritage. He traveled extensively across Maharashtra and beyond, initiating over 1,400 seekers on the spiritual path. Through enlightening lessons on the true nature of God and the essence of worship, he has worked to diminish fraudulent blind-faith practices within society. His visionary efforts to unite the Vārkari, Samarth, Natha, and Datta Sampradayas have fostered communal harmony among Marathi devotees.
P.P. Dr. Kaka has made India’s spiritual wisdom more accessible to contemporary audiences through his extensive body of work, which includes over 400 articles in leading magazines, 50 books, and 15,000 discourses. His nuanced and engaging interpretations of the Bhagavad-Gita, Upanishads, Brahmasūtras, and Amrutanubhav have resonated deeply with individuals of all ages. Over the past 50 years, he has conducted residential workshops in various locations, such as Nainital, Kurukshetra, Maharashtra, Uttar-Kashi, Hrishikesh, and Pandharpur, to expand the reach and acceptance of these texts.
Under his visionary guidance, the Bhaktiyog tri-monthly magazine was founded, inspiring many households to study and contribute to spiritual literature. His insightful and uplifting discourses have resonated deeply with people from both villages and cities, cultivating a culture of ‘Applied Vedanta.’ Many individuals, especially busy professionals, have learned to navigate life’s challenges with composure and clarity, thanks to his insightful, practical teachings.
Today, despite his advanced age, P.P. Dr. Kākā continues to inspire truth-seekers with his wisdom and practical approach to spirituality. His cheerful, calm, gentle, and courteous demeanour is highly respected and admired by one and all. His legacy stands as a shining example of how one individual’s dedication to serving others can transform entire communities and uplift the moral and ethical standards of society.
